I’m sure I’m not alone wanting to clear the decks before the new year. It’s a weird in-between time of year where we don’t seem to know what day it is, let alone what we are meant to be doing. Clearing the decks seems like a plan – create space for new energy and ideas.
This year has been totally taken up creating a deck of tarot cards. The project is finished and I feel a bit adrift.
Clearing the decks is a nautical term – to remove or secure loose objects before battle, to prepare for adventure. In between cooking and Xmas I’ve been tidying, hanging different art on my walls and doodling in my sketch book tying to prepare and find course for the journey to an exhibition in Edinburgh in May.
Sketching to prep has felt more like doodling in the doldrums. I’ve been so filled with creating a tarot deck that I’m a bit lost without the project. Will random sketches be threads to weave together into something new? Reminder that the formless is full of potential and as exciting as the formed. Two sides to life.
The twelfth card of the major arcana, The Hanged Man feels apt today.
Hang out, look at things from a different perspective, nest, rest, things are incubating, it takes time for the new to hatch. Be patient. Enjoy the remains of the year.
If Wishes Were Horses Tarot is available for pre-order now, for posting end of January. As well as the 78 tarot cards all hand drawn and packed with detail and symbolism, there is an explanatory card plus a first edition card to acknowledge buyers supporting the launch of this deck and the first small print run.
Thank you in advance for your support and best wishes and Happy New Year when it comes.
May your decks be clear for 25!
Love Kirsten
