The Low Hanging Fruit Are Easiest to Pick by Kirsten Harris, Oil on Canvas, 150 x 100 cm
Amongst my work for the upcoming exhibition is one painting that is wildly different from everything else. I’ve had it hanging on my wall and decided to let it go if anyone is interested. It is the only Africa inspired painting in this exhibition and is called ‘The Low Hanging Fruit Are Easiest to Pick.’
It is about vulnerability, differences, disappearing species. It’s a prayer through paint that the bullies and takers don’t spoil life on earth forever. It’s about love and respect for life in all its forms and manifestations.
I’m sitting here on a sunny Saturday evening contemplating next weeks exhibition in Edinburgh in what is forecast to be Africa-like temperatures. I decided to pull a tarot card. Strangely, having decided to share this painting, I pulled the only Africa inspired card in my deck – The Empress, which portrays a zebra with baobab trees and a waterfall behind. Above her head are stars, symbols of hope.
She is Mother Earth. She is the source. She is the flow of the Divine Feminine. She is our Great Mother. She is abundance and sharing. She is caring from each other and gifting each other with hope and love. She is our precious planet and it’s amazing generosity.
It feels apt for the exhibition.
Encouraging.
An old friend asked me recently if I was happy.
It struck me as an odd question.
I have been contemplating it.
I am content because I have content.
That is enough to be happy – enchanted by nature, talking to trees, being with animals, painting and drawing, tree planting and visioning re-wilding and trying to express the divine hum of the universe whilst my heart beats, to the best of my ability.
I turned the deck and her partner, the Emperor was underneath.
It’s a powerful combination for this coming weeks exhibition and a reminder to me that happiness and success are an inside job.
We all have power to balance and use. There’s nothing worse than feeling helpless. We can inspire each other to be the change that life on this beautiful planet needs. To be the empowered like the Empress and Emperor.
I hope to see you in Edinburgh if you can make it.
It’s going to be cool!
Love
