We all know the answer to being stuck or overwhelmed is to just do something.
Anything!
Get in motion. Take action.
It really doesn’t matter what you do, just do something!
Yet we can all be stuck on a jaggy thistle in our thinking. Hooked by some nonsense thought in our mind. Trapped by unhelpful ponderings on the past or unwritten future. Fearful of being hurt.
I painted this thistle study in oil a few years ago.
I thought it might serve as a useful reminder that sometimes we just have to unhook ourselves from barbs, or simply not go near situations that are going to be jaggy or entrap!
Anyway, that all sounds a bit negative, but is meant to positive! And it’s what the painting provoked in my thinking this morning.
I guess that really is the function of paintings. A place to dwell.
Being poorly has been a reminder of our vulnerability, our preciousness.
Sometimes tricky situations have gems of wisdom for us. It’s got me blogging again and deciding to get my art out there rather than feeling fearful of technological advancement and its implications. At the end of the day bots can never be complicated messy lovely warm gorgeous humans.
‘Thistle be the day’ to hold joy in my heart and just show up to the canvas brimming with love of paint and its unlimited wonderful possibility and see what happens.
I’ll share some new work tomorrow. Ideas in progress for an Edinburgh Festival exhibition next year. Exciting!
Much love
