I love that the word ART is contained in both the word gratitude and tarot!
A couple of people have messaged me to say they would like to buy ‘If Wishes Were Horses Tarot’ but they don’t know anything about tarot and didn’t know if it would be good them? I thought I would share a few thoughts. A bit of a beginners guide…
We respond to images (and sound) before we learn to speak. I believe it’s important to take time to dwell in the place of the non verbal, beginners mind, as well as to respond to the archetypal and the symbolic which seeps into our consciousness and can help direct our lives.
It was the role of stained glass windows and religious art. The church and state knew all about the power of both a quiet space and how symbolism acts on people!
The tarot helps us experience the world and ourselves through a different set of archetypes and symbolism. Imagery can take us out of the ordinary and mundane and connect us into our sacred hearts on this earth journey. Tarot can help open us to possibility.
Symbolism resonates even when we don’t understand why.
‘If Wishes Were Horses Tarot’ is inspired by Pamela Coleman Smith’s (1878 – 1951) masterpiece – The Ryder Waite Tarot. Instead of people I have used horses, animals and nature symbolism.
Animals, animism, animated, resonating, vibrating, living, harmonising, synthesising, with the forces of nature…. horse power and animal symbolism are deeply rooted in historical world culture. A past where humans lived with nature, not cut off from it, controlling it and destroying it! Kindness and receptivity is alive within us, though as a population it seems to be largely buried or suppressed, causing huge problems.
Taking time to be in nature, meditate or simply be with symbolic imagery can help us to tune into the animating forces of the Universe. We are part of that living force field and as a force for good it needs reawakening.
Tarot is a tool to help us awaken to find our way forward. It’s not scary, actually quite the opposite!
For beginners, my suggestion is to start by picking one card a day and sit it out for the day. Look at the image, let it wash over you, inhabit it, let the image give you thoughts and ideas. Trust your intuition! Jot thoughts down if you like. Perhaps, start a journal with your new deck.
Tarot is often called ‘The Fools Journey’. It will take you on a journey that is revealing, personal, interesting and can be profound. There is no hurry to learn it. Get to know the cards.
Just pick a card – what do YOU see? How does it make you feel? What ideas pop into your mind… I have picked the ten of cups… simply notice how you respond to this card right now.

‘If Wishes Were Horses Tarot’ draws on our connection to all other living creatures through the world of archetype, symbolism and imagination.
There is masses of info on the internet on animal symbolism and tarot meanings. However, the most important meaning is the one that is wakened in you – the whispers from your intuition.
Intuition is the quiet soul voice that whispers in the wind, blowing like a tiny translucent dandelion seed in your consciousness, softly, gently, asking you with its quiet voice to slow down, to listen to its message.
However, in this overstimulated world our intuition is often dampened down, ignored or overshadowed by loud feelings such as fear, anger, frustration, the chatter of the mind, distraction, ego, competition or other peoples thoughts and views. We mistake feelings and thoughts for intuition and follow the wrong guidance.
Simply put, intuition is powerful, yet not encouraged!
Did you get a class on developing your intuition at school?
I wish!
If you start to let the cards ‘speak’ to you, I know, little by little you will strengthen your intuition. They will become good friends, and we all need those! Your intuition is a guiding force for good.
My intuition suggested making some gifts of original artworks to send to anyone who preorders ‘If Wishes Were Horses Tarot’ while I am waiting for the decks to arrive from the printer and I can send them out into the world. These small paintings are like mid winter meditations to me. I’m especially enjoying painting the gold circles (the word tarot contains rota, meaning circle.) Painting these golden circles of light as gifts of gratitude feels good. Each one is different. Each one of us is different.
If you would like to pre-order ‘If Wishes Were Horses Tarot’ before 1st Febuary, I will be sending one to you.
A huge thank you to everyone who has already preordered and helped me launch the deck. I am half way to the launch target which is absolutely fabulous. Love you!
I will be posting on 1st February, so pre-order before then if you would like a golden circle of light painting too. Links below
With Gratitude and best Wishes,
Kirsten
